Christmas Pie (recipe via Nondace Dick, originally from an earlier generation)

Blend dry ingredients:
0.5 c sugar
0.25 c flour
1 envelope unflavored gelatin
0.5 t salt

Then gradually stir in:
0.75 c milk

Cool in saucepan over medium heat until boiling, stirring constantly. Boil 1 minute. Cool till mixture mounds (??).

Blend into previous mixture:
0.75 t vanilla extract
0.25 t almond extract

Build meringue by mixing the following ingredients, then beating until peaks form:
3 egg whites
0.25 t cream of tartar
0.5 c sugar

Fold meringue into milk and gelatin mixture, then fold in:
0.5 c heavy cream, whipped

Finally, fold in:
1 c moist sweetened coconut flakes

Pour into baked pie crust and chill for at least 2 hours. Garnish with red and green maraschino cherries.
