When the allowUpdates config setting is disabled, the Plugin Store will correctly hide the “Install” button for free plugins, but it won’t hide the “Try” button for commercial plugins. If you click on a Try button, you’ll get an error:

Unauthorized
Installation of plugins from the Plugin Store is disabled.

To avoid confusion, we should probably also hide the “Buy” button when allowUpdates is disabled, unless the plugin is already installed.
