I think component-shrinkwrap --save more or less does something like that for components that are installed - check out component-shrinkwrap

But some kind of npm outdated analogue would be nice.

forgot to close this haha ls does show versions but com ls --remote or something (--latest? not sure) with the coloring like you mention would be sweet in core

we should maybe add links to @yields' app in the search output with a flag so you can investigate size/deps etc really easily
