Update

Good afternoon! I am tteckster's wife. I don't have a clue if anyone will even see this because I'm not the computer savvy person that my husband was, but I wanted to try. I know that he posted an update regarding his health the other week, and I wanted to let you all know that he passed away a few days ago. If anyone sees this, maybe you could make a better post. This is Angie, and to say I am overwhelmed by all the comments, thoughts, love, prayers, and condolences is an understatement. As well as the donations. My husband loved this site, and he was passionate about computers, coding, and all the stuff that goes with it. He showed me a lot of the comments that were made when he posted about his cancer and it made him smile. Thank you all for the love and support that you have shown to him, and now me.
He would be amazed that I even found his sight and was able to make a post. Thank you all again, it warms my heart that he touched so many lives.*

Dear Angie,
the news of your husbands passing is beyond sad and sad far beyond your family. While you are surely hit the hardest and our thoughts are with you and TTecks friends and family, the Open-Source-World lost one of it's contributors with the largest impatct.
What TTeck created was a "gateway" for a lot of people into selfhosting services, breaking away from the big cloud gigants like Google, Meta/Facebook, Amazon and Microsoft. He was a true David, fighting against a Goliath.
But with creating his scripts, he enabled people to get a reasonably easy entry in this world of self-hosting their own services, regaining digital sovereignty over their data and enabling them to do things privately/in privacy again - without charging them a dime and instead supporting a lot of users with their individual problems for free.

The impact his work had is massive: Not only will his idea of "selfhosting" things easily life on beyond his and all our lifes as the seed it planted (or the box of the Pandora is opend to quote a senior Amazon manager) in a thrieving community - but he also changed peoples life in the long term. For a lot of people his scripts were the "gateway drug" into IT - they started to tinker around with self-hosting (which can be extremly overwhelming at the beginning and has a major and steep learning curve) but his scripts gave them an "early and easy sucess" - which then kept them going and let a lot of people dive in deeper. Often far beyond his scripts. Often far beyond the hobbyist scene.
I personally know of two professional IT careers that started with his scripts.
And even that is not enough - enabling people to change careers can have impacts even beyond that. One of the two people mentioned above has met her husband in her new career path. They are engaged now. They are planning children. All because she wanted to self-host things and had no idea where to start, coming from a healthcare career. All this because of TTeck.
All this would not have been possible without your husband. He is a gigant that will be remembered.

I am speechless, he left an incalculable gift in all of us.
When I saw the news yesterday, I felt that someone left without a sound, without complaining and without asking for anything in return. Such are the beings of light, those who have finished their work on this plane and have made this world a better place.
A person who influenced and helped thousands and thousands of people all over the world, from the Canary Islands where I am from to the ends of this planet.
That simplicity and human quality is within the reach of very few, because without getting to know tteck in person, we all feel that something died in our souls.
