Seems that https://conceptnet.io/c/en/situation is a type of https://conceptnet.io/c/en/state, where types of state are California, Colorado, etc. but 'ways of state' is 'add', 'announce', 'articulate', etc.

This creates a lot of noise.

Similar to this problem, these two lists are completely different and should not be joined:

I see two roots of the problem:

  • concepts don't have definitions (that I can see), I'll post a separate issue
  • "state" has numerous meanings that are not disambiguated by ConceptNet

@rosariou I think that in ConceptNet, senses of concepts are mixed together (by design?) so it would not be possible to disentangle the two senses of "state". See #336 for more puzzling on multi-sense words like "render" and "coat".

I still don't know how this can be used to avoid confusion between senses. You can try systems in which senses are represented explicitly:

  • WordNet, which is used in ConceptNet
  • BabelNet, which is perhaps 20x bigger than WordNet because it adds a lot more datasets
