Scott introduced the idea of being able to change the user's view to a different type of user, e.g. an attorney switching their view to that of an average client entering data.
A good example that I've seen elsewhere is how Facebook/LinkedIn/etc lets you see your profile as a stranger or as a user with a mutual acquaintance.
