  1. Read the development Readme and set up your development environment.

  2. Review the Software Lifecycle Diagram and the notes on security updates

  3. Review the project board by the type of issue you are looking for. The Front End Coding Project Board or the Back End Coding Project Board and identify an actionable backlog item. Or you can check out the entire project board here.

  4. Read about WCAG 2.0 accessibility standards and set up third-party tools for compliance testing.

  5. Communicate with PM your interest in being assigned a task.

  6. Review the Project Terminology.

  7. Your first commit will likely be to update a project card. Familiarize yourself with the Project Card Format.

  8. Read through Hack for LA Site Architecture and come up with questions 1) it does not answer immediately and 2) as you begin work. Supply all feedback in Issue 529.
