act is a tool to run GH workflows locally. It would be nice to mention act as an alternative for running a local runner.

It also ships with Docker images which try to mirror the environment of GH runners. This image could be used as FROM in https://github.com/ci-for-research/self-hosted-runners/blob/master/ubuntu-docker/Dockerfile so more software demanding workflows can run.
