Hello. It is very good that vertical tabs finally appeared. But the position of the create new tab button is at the bottom. It's not comfortable to go there all the time. Is it possible to make this button floating - at the end of the list of tabs? How in Edge from Microsoft?

+1

I agree, bottom left is where user might not see. And less accessible than below last vertical tab.

We need this:

Thanks :)

Hi, I completely agree with you! Having vertical tabs is a great addition, but it would be even better to have the create new tab button floating at the top of the list (or somewhere as close as possible to address bar). This would provide a more convenient and user-friendly experience. Additionally, it would be beneficial to make the tab bar size resizable, allowing users to customize it according to their preferences. Thank you for bringing up these suggestions!

I also agree.

MS Edge vert tab bar is resizable too:

hi @thomaschampagne Resizable vertical tabs panel is in 1.53.x in beta now, you'll get that soon #30322

For the new tab position, there's UX trade off here because there's a consistency with having the new tab button fixed to the bottom vs being jumpy or moving. Further, vertical tab users may already have the space filled as many will be coming from having a lot of horizontal tabs open and so the new tab button would already be at the bottom.

I opened a similar issue #30754 that suggests putting the new tab button fixed just below the Expand tabs button.

On version 1.52.122 Chromium: 114.0.5735.110 (Official Build) (64-bit), the pinned tabs are hidden. What if make the pinned tabs section always visible and just below that the New tab button? It would be like this:

[Expand Tabs button]
Pinned Tab 1
Pinned Tab 2
[New Tab button]
-------------------- # Things above this line are always visible
New Tab
New Tab
...

My second suggestion is to order tabs by newest to oldest so fresh tabs are always at the top. This would also mean that duplicate tabs appear above the original tab. Close tabs below option when right-clicking a tab would mean "close the tabs older than this tab".

Putting the new tab button below the tab list is certainly more efficient. Please add an option for us to choose, at least.

Having the + next to the last tab would actually make the UX consistent with the horizontal tab bar

Further, vertical tab users may already have the space filled as many will be coming from having a lot of horizontal tabs open and so the new tab button would already be at the bottom.

The vertical bar would frequently not be filled, making it still useful to have the + next to the last tab.

I'm finding it annoying atm how I have to have the whole window in view (sometimes the bottom of my browser is below the taskbar)

Anyway, I think it's helpful visualising in Edge as they do it best (note how the + is pinned to the bottom when the bar is overflowing, so it has the advantages of both approaches)

If I could add to this, when opening a new tab in vertical tabs mode, if you reached your screen's height, the tab will open under the new tab button, and you have no indication that it was opened. The list should autoscroll to the bottom when opening a new tab.

This is the single biggest reason I choose Edge over Brave. Just make it configurable if you think it's better UX to have it fixed so far away (then track usage of the choice to see how wrong this view is). Having new tab button in exact place where new tab will be, and not far away from focus of user is best. Or fix it to the top, closer to where your cursor is. Bottom is worst.

As a temporary solution, you can always add a new bookmark at the beginning of the bookmark bar (if you have that bar set to always be visible) for opening a new tab page. For the URL set this:
brave://newtab
and for the name set anything you want, for example:
+ New tab
Screenshot_20240725_154857

If you ask me, I would place the "New tab" button icon next to the "Search" icon on the right side in expanded view. In collapsed view, I would place it above or below the "toggle" icon.

Reviving the issue. Today I have started using Brave after years and this is the first annoyance I have noticed. Could we have the new tab "+" button right after the last tab or maybe even at top of all others? The bottom corner is the worst place it could be.
