“Taiwanese” is the colloquial term for “Taiwanese Minnan Chinese”, which is not the Standard Chinese used in the Republic of China (Taiwan). To describe it more properly, it can be called “Chinese (Taiwan)”.

I would rather distinguish the two dialects of Chinese as Chinese (Simplified) and Chinese (Traditional). The first is used in e.g., China Mainland and Singapore, and the latter is used in e.g., Hong Kong and Taiwan. This is also an established tradition in many other software.
