I recently read a book called Stolen Focus by Johann Hari about how social media is destroying people's attention spans. One suggestion I believe I saw in the book (I can't find the exact quote) is notification batching. This is a setting to only receive notifications in batches at specific intervals of time, which would be a parameter of the setting. For example, a user could choose to only get notifications once every 6 hours.

Currently I find that if a post I make is getting a lot of likes, I have to mute the post individually.

It should also be possible to set up a one-time notification batch interval (e.g. mute all notifications for 2 hours, then the user gets those notifications in a batch at the end of the interval and quick notifications resume afterwards.)

As an example, I think Telegram handles this well, although admittedly it's a per-contact/group/channel setting rather than applying to all notifications coming from the app.

This is the initial Mute menu:

If you tap Mute for... you then have various pre-set time options:

And if you want fine-grained control, you can tap Mute until... and set an exact date and time that notifications should be muted until:

Also, it's worth noting that you can already mute notifications at app-level on iOS for 1 hour or for the rest of the day (and I'm guessing a similar feature might be available on Android):

It's also worth mentioning #1079 which is a feature request for notification settings that would offer more control over the types of notification you get and who you get them from. This could help in the situation you described where, for example, you might only want to receive notifications when people you follow interact with a post, rather than every single interaction from every user.
