Build a non federated private social network

I've cloned the BlueSky App and built it for both iOS and Android. I've also brought a PDS online and used it from the apps I built. Very impressive!

I want to create a private social network. I'm assuming I can use a PDS and turn it off to the default federation. My App View functionality will be minimal at this point, with only chat and status updates, so I'm also assuming I can use the existing bsky.* lexicons. Are my basic assumptions correct here?

I'm also wondering if it's possible to make the user's data not publicly accessible.

I've found some guides online on how to do this with Mastodon, but I'm so impressed with your software that I don't want to look any further. I've read a lot, but any input or suggestions or blogs, or whatever is greatly appreciated.
