Investigate using operator sdk dependent resources

In 3.1 the operator sdk will offer the ability to manage dependent resources - we'll need to understand those apis a bit more to see the net benefit over our self management. Sticking points include our delayed creation of the kafka informer and how we expose the infomrer caches.

Updating with a comment from a recent standup - the cost to benefit for this is relatively high as we'll need to do quite a bit of refactoring just to more automatically handle the notion of an event source. Thus it has been very low priority.
