As a huge fan of ludum dare, I'd like to present its organization, and specifically its different stages: The WaitThere is a big countdown on https://ldjam.com/, so it's easy to understand when the next jam happens. Theme suggestionsEach participant (everyone with an account) have at most 3 themes to suggest. Suggestions are always private (visible to the admin for moderation purposes). They can be changed during the duration of this stage. Theme slaughterEach participant gets random theme suggested by other participants, and they can vote "yes"or "no", and report the suggestion, to help with moderation. Voters can see how they voted so far, and how many themes are left to vote. If you're into game design, this stage is fun because it can appeal to all types of player: kill the themes, vote all themes, discuss themes, discover themes. Theme voting tournament(not sure exactly on the numbers, but this will illustrate well enough) Only the 48 most popular themes are chosen (that's why the term "slaughter" is used, because there's thousands of suggestions). These 48 themes are filtered from inappropriate submissions, then split in 3 groups of 16.
Theme revealA keynote is shared, the theme is revealed, the game jam start! The JamThere's multiple formats now, but historically there has been :
ConclusionThe goodLudum dare organization is great because it spans the voters actions over multiple days, giving the opportunity to communicate different statistics, and foster word of mouth. The riskyIt's probably too big of an setup for bevy jam: risks of cheating, spam, moderation and usual server operation adds up quickly. |

Bevy community is growing and the bevy game jam voting is starting to feel more and more... "chaotic":
Weakest points:
Other characteristics of the current system are also to note, although not necessarily bad, at least constraining:
This thread is to discuss if we need an improvement, and how to improve.
