The heuristic was introduced by commit e62e384 ("memcg: prevent OOM with too many dirty pages") and it was applied only when may_enter_fs was specified. The code has been changed by c3b94f4 ("memcg: further prevent OOM with too many dirty pages") which has removed the __GFP_FS restriction with a reasoning that we do not get into the fs code. But this is not sufficient apparently because the fs doesn't necessarily submit pages marked PG_writeback for IO right away. ext4_bio_write_page calls io_submit_add_bh but that doesn't necessarily submit the bio. Instead it tries to map more pages into the bio and mpage_map_one_extent might trigger memcg charge which might end up waiting on a page which is marked PG_writeback but hasn't been submitted yet so we would end up waiting for something that never finishes. Fix this issue by replacing __GFP_IO by may_enter_fs check (for case 2) before we go to wait on the writeback. The page fault path, which is the only path that triggers memcg oom killer since 3.12, shouldn't require GFP_NOFS and so we shouldn't reintroduce the premature OOM killer issue which was originally addressed by the heuristic. As per David Chinner the xfs is doing similar thing since 2.6.15 already so ext4 is not the only affected filesystem. Moreover he notes: : For example: IO completion might require unwritten extent conversion : which executes filesystem transactions and GFP_NOFS allocations. The : writeback flag on the pages can not be cleared until unwritten : extent conversion completes. Hence memory reclaim cannot wait on : page writeback to complete in GFP_NOFS context because it is not : safe to do so, memcg reclaim or otherwise. No, they should be independent of each other.
We'll have to change the name of at least one of them. I'll send out a patch today.
Without nand/omap2.ko we can't expect nand to be found. Or did you mean

Hi Roger, |
As both omap2 onenand and omap2 nand driver modules are named the same i.e. "omap2.ko", only one of them gets shipped during MODPOST if both are configured as loadable modules. To avoid this ambiguity let's ship the omap2 nand driver as "omap2_nand.ko" Reported by Pierre Neyron via github beagleboard/linux#40 Cc: Robert Nelson <[email protected]> Signed-off-by: Roger Quadros <[email protected]> Signed-off-by: Brian Norris <[email protected]>

[ Upstream commit d9f9277 ] syzbot found a way to trigger an infinitie loop by overflowing @offset variable that has been forced to use u16 for some very obscure reason in the past. We probably want to look at NEXTHDR_FRAGMENT handling which looks wrong, in a separate patch. In net-next, we shall try to use skb_header_pointer() instead of pskb_may_pull(). watchdog: BUG: soft lockup - CPU#1 stuck for 134s! [ Upstream commit 78ee994 ] Because rfi_flush_fallback runs immediately before the return to userspace it currently runs with the user r1 (stack pointer). …text commit 0c9e8b3 upstream. stub_probe() and stub_disconnect() call functions which could call sleeping function in invalid context whil holding busid_lock. Fix the problem by refining the lock holds to short critical sections to change the busid_priv fields. This fix restructures the code to limit the lock holds in stub_probe() and stub_disconnect(). stub_probe(): [15217.927028] BUG: sleeping function called from invalid context at mm/slab.h:418 [15217.927038] in_atomic(): 1, irqs_disabled(): 0, pid: 29087, name: usbip [15217.927044] 5 locks held by usbip/29087: [15217.927047] #0: 0000000091647f28 (sb_writers#6){....}, at: vfs_write+0x191/0x1c0 [15217.927062] beagleboard#1: 000000008f9ba75b (&of->mutex){....}, at: kernfs_fop_write+0xf7/0x1b0 [15217.927072] beagleboard#2: 00000000872e5b4b (&dev->mutex){....}, at: __device_driver_lock+0x3b/0x50 [15217.927082] beagleboard#3: 00000000e74ececc (&dev->mutex){....}, at: __device_driver_lock+0x46/0x50 [15217.927090] beagleboard#4: 00000000b20abbe0 (&(&busid_table[i].busid_lock)->rlock){....}, at: get_busid_priv+0x48/0x60 [usbip_host] [15217.927103] CPU: 3 PID: 29087 Comm: usbip Tainted: G W 5.1.0-rc6+ beagleboard#40 [15217.927106] Hardware name: Dell Inc. As both omap2 onenand and omap2 nand driver modules are named the same i.e. "omap2.ko", only one of them gets shipped during MODPOST if both are configured as loadable modules. To avoid this ambiguity let's ship the omap2 nand driver as "omap2_nand.ko" Reported by Pierre Neyron via github beagleboard/linux#40 Cc: Robert Nelson <[email protected]> Signed-off-by: Roger Quadros <[email protected]> Signed-off-by: Brian Norris <[email protected]>

nand/omap2.ko is not shipped (make modules_install) if onenand/omap2 is built.
(if I'm correct, onenand/omap2 is not supposed to supersede nand/omap2 ?)
After build I have:
But only the onenand/omap2 module gets shipped upon make modules_install
Also, on the running system (BeagleBoard C3) the nand is not found.
@rogerq , I don't think it's fixed with your last commits. Could you confirm ?
For ref, my initial discussion with @RobertCNelson : RobertCNelson/linux-dev#40
Thanks
