I gave this issue a look and at least for the part of defining a version field to the release version semver seems clear but I think we should rather work on improving discovery of this feature: https://docs.balena.io/learn/deploy/deploy-with-balena-button/#:~:text=device%20types%20here.-,version,-%2D%20A%20user%2Ddefined
