AsyncAPI Conference 2025 - potential locations #1571
Comments
For APIdays locations, the more speaking slots we can get the better. London and Paris are good locations (meaning only one Schengen location if talking about a European visa). Bengaluru, Singapore, New York... I mean, we are still capable of having more events as long it's upfront. then Online |
I prefer prioritizing Bangalore if we do get sponsors for Bangalore |
you sure you meant London? not Munich? |
Munich is in Germany, right? We can still go, but then we will have to choose between Paris and Munich..... remember only one European location. But I did mean London |
but if we talk about schengen, when someone gets schengen visa, they can travel to France or Germany without problems, right? |
Schengen is quite complex. I don't know how to explain it, but if you're starting out, you get a single entry per country. Then, if you're a frequent traveler, it's easy to move around the EU with only one visa. As I said, it sounds simple but complex at the same time. |
Do we have any company adopting AsyncAPI in Africa, too? Or ready to collaborate with AsyncAPI? If so, we could have the conference in their location. |
Why this? I'm thinking about hosting one in Badajoz (Spain) myself. Sounds a bit limiting to just have Paris because getting there can be quite expensive for the majority of the continent 😅 |
Hey @fmvilas, traveling to the EU is not only expensive but also a complex process, and we have evidence of that. Most individuals (and sponsors, too) usually opt to be in Paris because it's bigger. If you want an edition in Spain, that's still possible. Just let us know your preferred timeframe before the end of December or January, as planning is underway. Final locations will be announced in January. |
PS. We can still have two EU locations. I'm not saying we should stick to one @Mayaleeeee not at the moment |
just to clarify for the sake of discussion, EU is not the same as Europe. UK is not considered EU, different visa process. |
@derberg @thulieblack We would be happy to organise the conference in Bengaluru, India. We are also planning to discuss with APIDays if we can do it jointly. Here you can find all the non-profit, volunteer-run community conferences we've organised since 2005 |
Sounds great Naresh, I guess we will get full details after the Paris Conf |
Interesting list. @derberg @thulieblack One event that can be considered outside of the EU, but in Africa is also the API Conference in Lagos. We would be happy to host you, in Lagos if there's interest. |
Hi @Gbahdeyboh thank you so much for expressing your interest in hosting us. It would be important to first know if you'll be willing to become AsyncAPI Conf Venue and host sponsor? |
My suggestion for 2025:
This is default. And we need to figure out how to do more, when there are people willing to coordinate under Conference Working Group. So if Fran wanna do something in Spain, we should enable him to do it and still have it under official events list. Just like my efforts for FOSDEM could also be promoted under official conference website |
Hey @thulieblack. I'm not very sure what you mean by "host sponsor". But we can provide a venue. |
Hi @Gbahdeyboh Venue and Host sponsor means that sponsoring us with the venue and covering the logistics costs needed for the whole event. Provided that we bring the branding and run our own CFP. |
Sure @thulieblack. For venue, exhibition space, logistics, etc. We can cover that. I'm proposing this as a track during the main conference so we have a room dedicated to AsyncAPI and an exhibition space. The sessions, CFP, speakers etc is all within your jurisdiction. |
Alright that'll be really amazing. Do you mind letting us know the proposed dates. Also I'll be back 2nd week of January let's have a call to iron out the details |
Sure. Let's jump on a call and discuss. We're walking towards the week of July 19th. |
Let's explore and list all possible locations we can go to with AsyncAPI.
APIDays locations
Easier to travel to than Europe
Not sure if travels to USA are as difficult as to European Union, or a big easier like to UK
We've been there in 2024 and I think better to explore other non-european locations
We have a lot of German companies adopting AsyncAPI. Also from Google Analytics I see that last 12m traffic to website was coming from
1. USA ; 2. India ; 3. Germany
. So would make sense to go there, especially because of the tech vibe of Munich.Huge and main APIDays event, I bet they will ask us to be there as always
Afaik it was a great decision to go there this year
Biggest unknown for me. We do not have to many local community members, I don't know if anyone can be there and do MC and stuff. Complex and not sure worth the effort.
From AsyncAPI perspective, not looking at community and travel aspects, I think it is good to be in: Munich, London, and Paris. Unfortunately, 2 locations are EU which sucks when it comes to visa allocation. Something maybe to check with APIDays, we could try to be in New York or Singapore.
Online
I think it is obvious we wanna do it again in 2025
Sponsors Hosts
Bengaluru? There are some inquiries from potential hosts. We also have some sponsors that have offices there. Also we have community members there. Would be good to have in 2025 on agenda something that is pushed by some sponsors, not only us and APIDays.
Thoughts? Suggestions?
