Closing plot windows

Dear all,

I'm generating a massive amount of plots, the problem is it shows the plot and generates a PNG file. But if I do not close the pop-up windows it does not continue to plot.
I'm trying with mapdl.show('close') command however it's only purging the buffer I guess, nothing else. Do you know how can I skip this in the process to automatize the production of figures?

The part of script that plot the thing is the following:

Hi @peluho How are you running the PyMAPDL script? If you use Jupyter Lab, and let's say that block of commands listed were in its own JL cell, then you could add the the following to the beginning of the cell:

%%capture

And the plots will not show in JL. Other IDEs probably have a similar/same functionality. Mike

I'm running the PyMAPDL using pycharm environment. But it's a good suggestion if that works, I'll try

Hi @peluho Alternatively the 'post_processing' method could be used; when it's savefig feature is used the plots are saved to an image file and not plotted. So something like:

mapdl.post_processing.plot_nodal_displacement(component='NORM', savefig = 'norm-disp.png')

of course you would need to redo all the plot controls since this method does not use the MAPDL plot controls.

@peluho , the best approach is as @mikerife says.

If you want to print the MAPDL images, just the kwarg vtk=False.

Post-processing plotting functions use general_plotter function:

Thank you for your help, in fact the issue is I have several hundreds of load cases already solved. So I'm reading this files and plotting the deformed shape.

To do as you recommend, then I would need to solve again all the LC and it's going to be time consuming. But it seems that probably is the only option here.

It should not be needed to re-solve if in MAPDL is not needed as well.
