Benefit

Currently, UGRC is paying the cloud bill for projects that we created for other agencies. This was mostly oversight. The average cost is small (about $100 a month with a few of these projects not generating any cost) but it would be nice to sort this out and create a habit for the future.

In speaking with the cloud billing folks, it was advised to simply update the label. Prior notification wasn't highly recommended since the costs are small sums and viewing the bill break down isn't trivial. Most agencies won't notice the difference.

Acceptance Criteria

ELCIDS are applied for

  • broadband
  • dabs
  • deq enviro
  • electro-fishing
  • electro-fishing query
  • locate
  • nfhl
  • parole
  • plpco access map
  • spills
  • surface water quality
  • uorg
  • vista
  • wfrc-bike-map
  • wfrc-rtp-pro
  • wfrc-wasatch
  • wmrc
  • wri
  • verify that nr5067 is the correct ELCID for roadkill. The terraform has this value but at some point someone click-ops-ed this value: nr5067a.

Notes

This all happens in the terraform repo

Risks

Customers are surprised we stopped paying their bill

@steveoh Where should I go to get ELCIDs? For example, I'm looking for one for GOEO to add to the broadband and locate projects.

We have to ask the owners of those projects.

Is it worth asking GOEO for an ELCID for projects that don't incur any costs? I checked locate and broadband and neither of them incurred any costs over the past 90 days. If so, what do you envision the message to them looking like? Something like:

We are trying to organize our cloud projects that we have created on behalf of other agencies and assign them the appropriate ELCIDs. We have several projects related to these apps broadband.ugrc.utah.gov and locate.utah.gov. They have incurred little to no cost over the past 90 days and we do not anticipate costs to increase significantly in the future. Do you have an ELCID that we can assign to these projects?

Steve's improved version for future reference:

Dear [Name],

We're currently organizing the tags for our cloud projects, including those we manage on behalf of other agencies. We noticed that we're missing the appropriate ELCIDs for projects associated with the broadband.ugrc.utah.gov and locate.utah.gov websites.

These projects appear to have minimal cost associated with them over the past 90 days, and we don't anticipate significant cost increases in the future.

Would you be able to provide the ELCIDs for these projects so we can ensure proper tagging?

Thank you for your assistance. Please let me know if you have any questions.

Sincerely,
