This guide is a quick starting point for first-time contributors to the Showcase work. If you are at a Contributor Day, this can help point you in the right direction.

First steps

There are a few tools and credentials you'll need before you start contributing. If you haven’t set them up already, follow the quick steps below or visit this page for more detailed instructions.

What is the WordPress Showcase?

The Showcase shows the world what can be done with WordPress. It demonstrates the publishing platform's capabilities with a wide array of use cases, including sites for personal bloggers, small businesses, enterprise companies, and national governments.

Why contribute to the WordPress Showcase?

The Showcase is important to show the world the vast number of websites that can be built on WordPress, but we need help moderating and writing copy for Showcase submissions. Because WordPress is an open source platform, it depends on contributors like you who collaborate and contribute to making it better for everyone.

This a great area to contribute if you have an interest in:

  • Promoting WordPress, its features, and success stories to a broader audience.
  • Learning about the websites and brands using WordPress as a platform.
  • Writing and editing content that showcases the capabilities and diverse uses of WordPress.

Ways to contribute to the Showcase

Based on your experience with marketing, copywriting, or WordPress contribution in general, one of these two areas would be perfect for Contributor Day:

1. Moderating Showcase submissions

🔎 Better suited for new contributors

You won’t need much prior knowledge to undertake this task. However, the following is helpful:

  • Familiarity with the Showcase guidelines, basic web standards, and qualities of a good showcase entry, such as unique design or innovative WordPress features.
  • Skills related to research, content moderation, and attention to detail.
  • Familiarity with BuiltWith (or similar tools) and GitHub.

2. Writing entries for approved submissions

📝 Better suited for experienced contributors

Prior knowledge that you’ll find helpful for working on this task:

  • Writing and editing: Ability to create clear and informative yet engaging descriptions of showcased sites and their unique aspects.
  • Familiarity with the WordPress Brand Writing Guide to ensure descriptions align with the tone, style, and the project’s writing standards.
  • Familiarity with GitHub usage.
