Problems arise with QTTabbar & WindowTop simultaneous use

When I run the WindowTop software, some of the features of QTTabBar software failure.

For example, preview file, double-click to return to parent folder, etc...

Hi, maybe you can try this:

1. Click on the WindowTop tray icon --> Blacklist / Whitelist windows

2. Click on Add process
   

3. Look here for the QTTabBar process. I don't have it installed, so I don't have it in the screenshot.
   

If you found it, select it. If not, you need to browse for the exe file of QTTabBar by clicking on "Select another process". You will get a browser window to specify the process exe file's location.

After that, make sure that the option "Blacklist the specified programs" is selected.

This will tell WindowTop to affect anything from the QTTabBar process (such as Windows and more).

Let me know if it fixed the problem.
Btw, it looks like this app is used to give you tabs on file explorer. This recently became a built-in feature in Windows 11.
Do you use Windows 11? If so, it would be better for you to update your OS so you will not need this app anymore.

What OS are you running and what version are you running of each respective software. Could you elaborate on "preview file" if you mean the ability to preview a video by shift clicking on it then that works fine here but I feel like you mean something else. I don't think I am using the latest version of QTTabBar either and am not using the beta version of WindowTop at the moment either. There is one minor issue I have noticed but I don't think it is the same as the ones you have mentioned.

I'm sorry to say but Windows 11 is terrible and its tabbed file explorer is light years behind QTTabBar which is incredibly sad considering QTTabBar has been around for decades in some form or another and rarely gets updated, it also does a lot more than just tabbed explorer.
It's actually really nice once you set it up. I feel like its an essential piece of software much like WindowTop. If Microsoft lifted your ideas and attempted to do what you have done with WindowTop does I am certain Microsoft's implementation would be vastly inferior too.

I don't know if it is possible to isolate specific conflicts by blacklist as I imagine you'd have to blacklist explorer which would limit you a fair bit in terms of what you could then so with WindowTop.

Several users have reported compatibility problems with QTTabBar. I need to understand the issue better.

@Mystqr4, can you provide a brief recording demonstrating the problem when WindowTop is running? I want to investigate the issue further and see what is malfunctioning.

I have personally tested the compatibility of QTTabBar, and I experienced no problems. Maybe it is because I have used WindowTop beta and QTTabBar beta.
Can you report what version of WindowTop and QTTabBar you are using?

I'm using windows 10 and QTTabBar ver 1041 with WindowTop version 5.19.3

This is the only problem I have noticed.

If you aren't fast to click on the little drop down menu for the folder drop down menu the hover bar for windowtop will appear and you cannot use the folder drop down menu shortcut to view the contents or gain fast access to specific files or folders within that folder.

In the gif I have simulate it being an issue and then how it should work by quickly left click on the arrow for the drop down menu to beat Windowtop's hover bar.

Thank you for looking into it. I hope others are able to illustrate the issues they have in the same manner so you know what to look for when testing.

I see now the issue.
I am trying to reproduce it now, and for some reason, I found a different bug - the arrow you show on your recording is not showing up when WindowTop is running. This is strange. I will check why it happened.

By the way, I like this QTTabbar app. However, I don't like that there is no option to disable its tabs. Is there a way?
I prefer to disable it. I even want to disable Windows 11 tabs because I use the anchors instead of tabs. Unfortunately, seems that there is no way to do it in Windows 11

It's a really nice piece of software. There have been a lot of similar applications that have tried to take its place but nothing has come close to it.
It would have been cool if you could disable tabs as well and jut have all the other features without having to use the tabs if one doesn't want to but as it is this rarely gets updated. I think it may be on it's second or third developer now. It would be nice if someone would fork it and be more active.

I'm not 100% sure. I couldn't find anything officially but do know a number of people have worked on it in some capacity. With what I believe the latest one is on github and maybe more localized for Chinese language but seems to be more active.

Yes, this is indeed a piece of software that I like.
But my favorite feature of QTTabBar is the file preview
feature and plugins etc...

What I use is that the preview function is automatically turned on after the mouse cursor moves to the target -- I have not turned on the "Show only with Shift key down" option in the QTTabBar option.

QTTabBar is probably one of if not the oldest tabbed explorer addon out. It's easy to forget about it since it doesn't get updated often.
