Hello,
I installed the Avideo-encoder on a Linux UBUNTU 20.04 PC,
thank you for your video.
it works very well but the computer has a celeron processor so it's long.
what type of processor and what type of ram do you recommend ?

For encoding videos using AVideo-Encoder with FFmpeg, the speed and efficiency largely depend on the hardware it runs on. Given that you mentioned the process is lengthy with a Celeron processor, I'd recommend upgrading for a smoother experience.

Processor (CPU):

  1. For casual use: An Intel Core i5 or i7 (8th generation or newer) or an AMD Ryzen 5 or 7. These processors offer a good balance between price and performance and will significantly speed up encoding times compared to a Celeron.
  2. For heavy or professional use: Consider Intel's high-end Core i9 or AMD's Ryzen 9. For even more power, workstation CPUs like the Intel Xeon or AMD Threadripper can be considered, but they come at a higher cost.

RAM:

  1. For casual use: 16GB of RAM is generally sufficient.
  2. For heavy or professional use: 32GB or more. Having more RAM allows ffmpeg to process larger chunks of data at once, especially useful for high-resolution videos.

It's worth noting that while upgrading the CPU and RAM will provide significant improvements, the encoding process can still be inherently time-consuming, especially with high-resolution videos. Furthermore, using an SSD instead of an HDD for storage can also speed up the process, as read/write speeds play a role in encoding efficiency.

Lastly, remember that FFmpeg can utilize GPU acceleration, which offloads some of the work from the CPU to a compatible graphics card. If you have a supported NVIDIA or AMD GPU, it can further boost encoding speeds.

Good morning,
Thanks for giving me so many details.
as you see I am far from there with my found PC.
I had UBUNTU 16 installed and upgraded to UBUNTU 20.
everything went well but it was long, in RAM, I must not have more than 4 GB.

I went with what I had on hand.
the goal being to install it on a computer and see what happens.
this way I already have a disk with the system installed
I will make a clone on an SSD.
and study your explanations.
for video editing, I'm on MAC with 64 GB RAM
