The game freezes when a gamepad is disconnected, forcing the user to kill the process.
Just disconnect any gamepad at any point in the game.
(This only happens when playing the Windows version with Proton, it doesn't happen with the native Linux version of the game.)

Hello @SuperSamus, looking at https://github.com/ValveSoftware/wine/commits/bleeding-edge, ValveSoftware/wine@58f3d92 has already been cherry picked. You should be able to try that out immediately on the bleeding edge automated build of Proton Experimental (https://github.com/ValveSoftware/Proton/wiki/Proton-Versions#proton-bleeding-edge).
