Personally I like how the skills work in Runescape and I thought we would do something similar. I'm going to try to stay away from combat skills (strength, archery, defense, ...) right now just because it requires more assets/animations/etc.
Personally mining/smithing are my two favorite non combat skills in runescape and I think it would be really cool to have in this game. It won't be much work to add mining but smithing will require adding a ton of assets so that will probably have to wait for now.
I probably have time in the next 2 weeks to add basic support for a couple of skills. Does anyone have suggestions on fun skills that would also be easy to implement? We will create separate issues for keeping track of the implementation.

Tbh smithing and fighting could use the same animations since they are (usually) both hitting things. Alchemy (à la Skyrim) was kind of fun. Might also want to look into cooking as a way to give health and other bonuses.
