Suggested by tornado on the Wall:

Currently, one needs to click on a sentence first, to see if it has any comments or tags on it. Since Tatoeba allows sentences to be translated without clicking on them, comments and tags tend to go unnoticed.

I like the appearance of the issues section on GitHub. Why not implement a similar thing for Tatoeba? I think it would be more informative, as well as being visually nicer.

Of course, not all the tags need to be visible in this way. Only some important ones, like @delete, @change, @NNC, OK, idiom etc. would be enough, I think.

This seems like an excellent idea.

Here are a couple of thoughts.

** We need to make sure this feature doesn't clutter things up too much.

  • Keep the "important ones" to a minimum, maybe only the ones already mentioned.
  • One possible idea that would help keep things to a minimum, would be to group all the "negative" tags into one "alert" icon letting members know that this sentence may possibly not be ready to translate. This is likely one of the main reasons this enhancement was suggested. By "negative", I mean things like @change @delete @nnc, not a sentence, less than natural, etc.
  • Perhaps there are other tags like "idiom" that help alert translators that they need to take extra care when translating the sentence. If so, these would be useful tags to have, too. Or, these could all be grouped into a different "alert" icon that would mean "extra care may be needed when translating this one."

** Maybe in the future, we need to divide comments into 2 or more types. If you did that, you could have 2 indicators: comments and annotations.

Many translators may be interested in reading annotations, but not interested in reading all the other comments on the sentences, especially those comments aimed at corrections after the sentence has already been corrected, and comments left by Horus. We so many comments left on sentences that become irrelevant, members would likely start ignoring a comment indicator, but might not ignore an annotation indicator, so having 2 indicators might prove to be very beneficial.

Here are some possible categories, but perhaps limiting to only 2, "comments" and "annotations", would be better.

  • Comments aimed at getting sentences corrected.
  • Annotation:
  • Comments on clarifications on meaning.
  • Related:
  • Compare:
  • Same Pattern:
