Context

I asked feedback regarding the "search template" feature and got the following comments, showing that the feature is a bit misleading.

From CK:

Question: How do you access the saved template(s)?

From Alan:

In my mind, "Create a search template" suggests to me that Tatoeba is going to hold onto it for me, and potentially allow me to use it across devices.

Ideas

  1. Update the URL in the browser as the user fills up the form, similarly to https://translate.google.com/.
  2. Remove the button.
  3. Optionally, add a tip at the bottom of the form explaining that the page can be bookmarked if the user needs to save the search criteria and the URL can be copied from the browser URL bar if the user needs to share the search criteria.

or

  1. Update the URL in the browser as the user fills up the form, similarly to https://translate.google.com/.
  2. Change the wording to "Copy URL for these search criteria" (or some similar wording).
  3. When clicking on the button, instead of reloading the page, copy the URL in the clipboard.
  4. Optionally, add a tip explaining that the page can also be bookmarked.

Change the wording to "Copy URL for these search criteria" (or some similar wording).

Perhaps something to imply the following.

"Generate and copy this search URL without making the search."

I personally might do something like that to send it to a member who is looking for something. I have enough experience with the advanced search engine that this would save me time and also save one extra search on tatoeba.org.
