Account deletion #2014

We have more and more often users contacting us to request to delete their account and this is currently a manual process:
The user has to send an email to the community admins (cf. instructions for the user <https://en.wiki.tatoeba.org/articles/show/delete-account>).
An admin has to go to the admin page and either delete the account or set the status to "inactive" (cf. instructions for the admins <https://en.wiki.tatoeba.org/articles/show/handling-account-deletion>).
This whole process is inconvenient for both the users and the admins.
Obviously we should provide a "Delete account" button to the user somewhere in the Profile or in the Settings, but what happens exactly when the user clicks that button is still open for discussion.
In any case, there is no need for admins to be involved in account deletions. Everything they currently do can be automated.
I think that there could be 2 buttons:
o Please delete my account and delete all my sentences
o Please delete my account and keep my sentences (i.e. they become orphans)

Deleting all sentences is not something we will implement in the scope of account deletion. It's a separate topic and the choice of deleting all the sentences is not a choice that can be made by the user alone. Tatoeba has to approve it. As of now, this would be a very exceptional case, so we don't need a button for that. If there is ever a legit request for deleting all the sentences of a specific user, then we will do it manually. We're only talking about deleting the profile of a user here. |
What about creating a total new status. For example: freeze my account for (1-3-6-12-99999 days), or make my account hidden. Just think about offering to user several possibilities, other than just deleting. |
