Perhaps the "Time Out" error page needs to be changed from the Tatoeba Maintenance Mode page.

I have gotten this page a number of times in the past month.

I still think this needs to be changed.
The implication is that tatoeba.org is now offline, when in actuality, it's only a time-out error.

I think we can solve this issue by having separate pages configured in nginx for:

1. 503/504 → timeout → new page: try again later, please report if the problem persists
2. 502 → php-fpm down or file maintenance.mode exists → our current error page
3. 500 → php error → new page: we messed up, please report

Today, I've seen this page multiple times.
It's not confusing to me, since I know what's happening, but I imagine it would be confusing to new members or members who have recently joined.

Perhaps it might be a good idea to go ahead and create the 503/504 error message in English and then ask members to translate the message into other languages.

Perhaps something like this.

February 14, 2022 had less than 1,000 new sentences added. This is rare. I wonder if the misleading "time-out error" message might mean that members don't try to reload the page, but give up using the site for the day. A number of us realize that all we need to do is reload the page, but it might not be so obvious for many.
