enhancement
Issue that describes a problem that requires a change in the current functionalities of Tatoeba.
The Problem
There are too many items on the drop-down "select" menu for public lists on the advanced search.
There are currently 568 lists that show up in the drop-down menu for the advanced search.
This makes it difficult to find the desired list, or browse the lists the are useful for searching.
Comments
Comment 1
There is no reason to search a list with 0 items.
lists with 0 items = 21
Comment 2
There is also no real reason to use the advanced search to find items on a list that is only one page long.
lists with 10 items or less = 207
Comment 3
Perhaps there is also no reason to use the advanced search to find items on lists with 100 items or less.
Members who are active on the website and who use the advanced search a lot likely to have there settings to view 50 or 100 sentences per page. It's likely not too much trouble to just browse these lists and use the "find" command on your browser.
lists with 100 items or less = 468
My Main Suggestion
I would suggest eliminating all lists with 100 or fewer items from this drop-down menu.
If you don't agree to that, then I would suggest eliminating all lists that have 10 or fewer items from this drop-down list.
One Other Suggestion
Convert all the "public" lists that preceded the possibility of "private" lists to "private" in the database. I don't remember the exact date this was added.
Many of these public lists have not been used in a long time. Many of the members who created these list probably haven't been back to the website since they could switch their lists to "private."
This would be a one-time thing that you would have to do. Any member could then manually change appropriate lists back to public is they wanted to.
Conclusion
Doing both of these things should help solve this problem of having so many lists to search through when using the advanced search.
