I would like to replace the FX3 with the an (cheap) FPGA that can stream the data over HDMI into a USB3 raw capture device as shown by the hsdaoh (high-speed data-acquisition over HDMI) project. The FX3 never worked reliable and has a license issue that basically forces everyone to register at Infineon, download their example code, modify and compile it.
While creating the FPGA binary still requires downloading a manufacturer IDE that requires registering, there is no issue with sharing the full code or the binary. Additionally the code is somewhat cross-platform and should need only minor modifications to run on another FPGA if needed.
The Tang Nano 20K board is significantly smaller than the FX3, while it might be possible to directly integrate it into the MISRC board at some point, my first approach would be an adapter board that not only contains the header for the Tang Nano, but also an audio ADC (or maybe two for 4 channels) for capturing the audio.
