To add some context here. I have the same issue. Intellij complains that I am on 2022.X release of the IDE but the plugin is currently just building for 2021. Attached is a screenshot of the error from the plugin.
However if you modify the gradle.properties file to set
pluginUntilBuild = 222.*
You can re-build the project and get a successful load into Intellij 2022. However when you attempt to use the plugin you get an error. I could not identify the intellij api that changed.
