Unable to attach to active terminal on SLURM cluster

Hi All,
Thanks in advance for any leads or help trouble shooting this.
I am able to attach an active terminal to a new terminal on the SLURM HPC I am using. It will always attach it to a login node. However, if I try to attach to the current active terminal via the "Always Use Active Terminal" box, I am not able to attach to the current terminal. I've tried it both with R already open and not.

If R is not running I get: "

.vsc.attach()
-bash: syntax error near unexpected token `.vsc.attach'
"

If R is running I get: "

.vsc.attach()
Error in .vsc.attach() : could not find function ".vsc.attach
"

I really just want to be able to visualize plots without having to save them to file.

Is there information that would be useful in troubleshooting this further (other than the linux info below?
