How to file a helpful issue

Qubes OS release

R4.1

Brief summary

Minimal templates of Fedora (e.g. fedora-38-minimal) has package GNOME Tracker that should be removed because:

  1. Nothing depends on it in the minimal template like Nautilus or other GNOME-stuff, so it is completely not needed, especially for MINIMAL fedora template.
  2. Possibly slows down the usage of qube based on the template providing absolutely nothing in return in case of minimal template.
  3. Possibly consumes memory and doing nothing (Disable Tracker (the GNOME desktop search provider) by default #8372).

I think it is a bug (misconfiguration) of fedora-*-minimal template and package was left there by mistake.

Similar issues

Similar one about disabling it for full template: #8372
The difference is that in full template it is not possible to remove it, because it has Nautilus and something else that depend on it.

In case of minimal template the logical solution is to completely remove these Tracker packages, because it has no Nautilus or other tools that depend on it. It should be somewhat minimal after all.

How to solve

Remove tracker and tracker-* packages from minimal templates.

sudo dnf remove tracker tracker-*
