Thanks I'd like to give 🙌

  • all the @Quansight-Labs/czi-a11y-grant team for being so kind and open to make this project a success

Updates from last week ✔️

  • This week was weird - I spent some time educating myself on manual testing, accessibility topics and the such

Challenges I faced and things I'd like assistance with 🙏

  • Need to sync with @gabalafou on the approach to add tests 😉

My availability for next week

  • Taking time off between 24th December and 2nd January 🎄

Thanks I'd like to give 🙌

  • Thanks to everyone for their patience while I work far more on the Jupyter accessibility workshops this week!

Updates from last week ✔️

  • Roadmap Update roadmap November 11 #60 has been merged. I put in a draft PR for this to be in the jupyter/accessibility repo: jupyter/accessibility #64.
  • Roadmap announcement blog hasn't changed since last week.
  • Updated the PR for search/filter/input fields color contrast (jupyterlab/jupyterlab PR #11658). All changes are based on the feedback, but there are some other larger questins still unaddressed. This is ready for another round of review if wanted.
  • Continued drafting the alt text SPEC with @MarsBarLee. This week we worked on scope, style guide, and main alt text writing principles.

Challenges I faced and things I'd like assistance with 🙏

  • Things are okay, thanks!

My availability for next week

  • I will be out of office until January 3. 😴 Time for a nap!

Thanks I'd like to give 🙌

  • I didn't fill out last week's update because of the Jupyter accessibility workshop but I wanted to thank @tonyfast for putting that together. It was a reminder to me that I really like collaborating on tech problems
  • Thanks to @isabela-pf for always finding time to sync with me and give me background info. Also for inspiring me and brightening community video calls with colorful and wonderful fashion choices : D

Updates from last week ✔️

  • I have been heads down digging deep into the JupyterLab and RetroLab code bases, which coincidentally (meaning I didn't actually plan it out this way) aligns with days 31-60 in my 30-60-90 goals in Notion.so: "Familiarise with Jupyter codebase"
  • Played around with using Gitpod to develop JupyterLab because I volunteered to give somebody from the accessibility community call a walk-through of how to contribute to JupyterLab

Some of the things I've been doing in my deep dive:

Challenges I faced and things I'd like assistance with 🙏

  • Does anybody know if anyone out there has made a class/component diagram for the JupyterLab front end? That's one of the things I'm working on. I've searched the docs, I've done a quick google image search, I asked in Gitter, I searched the JupyterLab repo for the keywords "architecture" and "diagram", but I haven't found anything quite like what I'm looking for. What I'm looking for is a diagram that maps the chunks of the JupyterLab UI back to the classes in JupyterLab and Lumino that generate that UI.

Here are some things I've found that are related but not quite what I'm looking for:

My availability for next week

  • Out for 12 calendar days: Wednesday, December 29-Sunday, January 9.

Details: If omicron doesn't disrupt my plans, I will be out starting Wednesday, December 29 next week. So I will only be available on Monday and Tuesday next week. I will also be out the entire following week, Monday, January 3 to Friday, January 7. I will be back on Monday, January 10.
