Check why single-poets-thread version fails an assert

Tim said he gets an assert fail when running it, and I think the assertion is there to just make sure the beads are staying within the volume. If something is wrong, it might mean it doesn't work as we'd expect, which might mean that his work on the custom instructions/hardware acceleration might not be being tested correctly.
