Welcome to the OwlNest wiki!
Our information has been largely flowing through private corporations that we cannot control. Privacy and data security have been given up in exchange for "convenience". But is it really worth it?
OwlNest is a open-source project with transparency and can be hosted on your local machine. No telementery is collected now(for technical reasons obviously), nor will in the future. With OwlNest, your data is processed locally, or only by the ones you trust. All network traffic is strongly encrypted by default with E2E encryption. Here, we regain control of our information.
OwlNest is more like an additional layer of network(software defined network) on top of traditional network. Ideally, there is a real person behind every node of OwlNest, like people's homes, but digital. Hence, we will re-establish our digital existence without centeralized services, and establish connection with not only the nodes, but also the people behind them.
Since we have a real person behind every node, what we ultimately encourage is the connection between people. Centralized services can easily cut our connection to the rest of the world and form hard-to-traverse desert and even isolated islands. We need connection to other people for our well-being. With OwlNest, we shall reconnect.
OwlNest is E2E by default, but complete security and privacy are not possible. Your IP addresses will be known by all peers participated in the network. Any illegal behaviour shall not be tolerated.
