I don't understand why my OpenPrinting / CUPS setup is correct on my Ubuntu 24.04.1 LTS, but the Settings in my system says that: "Error: some settings cannot be unblocked"?

Also, during the printer setup with the Canon PIXMA TS9120 OEM drivers, the terminal suggested that my drivers were depreciated. I am not certain what exactly is going on.

But would be nice to get some tips and suggestions to fix this annoying printer/technical issue?

Thanks.

@FrederickPina ad the error "Error: some settings cannot be unblocked" - I don't see the error in CUPS, so it might be error message from gnome-control-center, so I would recommend to ask them.

Ad driver being deprecated - classic drivers are deprecated over 10 years and won't be supported directly by CUPS in its next major version. Your device supports AirPrint, if you enable it on the printer it will work automatically with CUPS and it will work in the future.

Well, none of this is working or helping. The CUPS web-based software recognizes my printer, but I still cannot print. I have turned on AirPrint, and nothing still works. So, what is going on?

Why do you assume there's a bug? Do you have evidence to support this? At any rate, I do acknowledge this is an old printer. This Canon PIXMA TS9120 was purchased six years ago. But the Linux/Debian drives still work fine, so again... Why are you casting blame on the previously working drivers?

This software of yours broke my development environment and I am forced to reinstall everything like it was before.

Never again will I use your software.

Since enabling AirPrint did not work, I'm reopening the issue.

First, stop cups-browsed service if it is running, remove any printers installed on OS related to your physical printer, and start CUPS with debug logging by entering cupsctl LogLevel=debug2.

@FrederickPina how's your printer connected? USB, Ethernet, Wifi? The network device has to be in the same network to have AirPrint to work and mDNS must be allowed in your machine's firewall, USB device needs ipp-usb software to be installed to work via AirPrint.

If your printer meets any of those requirements, it should be available on mDNS when you query from your machine by command avahi-browse -avrt - if it isn't, then there is misconfiguration in your network or mDNS support in your OS is broken.

If the printer is registered on mDNS, it should be seen by CUPS - check by lpstat -l -e.

If the printer is seen by CUPS, it should be able to print correctly - the problem happens if there is firmware bug in printer capabilities, which prevents CUPS to generate printer options for it - then here it is highly possible your printer has firmware bug in IPP support.

If you see the printer, try to print to it, and then attach here files with outputs of lpstat -l -e, avahi-browse -avrt and CUPS debug log - Ubuntu has it under file /var/log/cups/error_log.

If the network printer is not in your network, you have to install it manually via CUPS Web Interface or by CLI command with IPP Everywhere model.

@FrederickPina Sorry, I confused your issue with another Canon printer issue... Please ignore my comment...
