How to turn of stripping globally

I'd like to turn off dontStrip, globally for all packages I use for my top level .nix file, so that I have debugging info through my whole tree of dependencies.

Is that possible?

Maybe just define makeUnstrippedDerivation = {...} @ args : makeDerivation (args // {dontStrip = true;});

Best to have a stdenv that applies the dontStrip to mkDerivation? What's the latest way to do stdenv adapters?
