Working aligned with People Ops to set up a Community of Practise focused on research software and reproducibility.

  • Initial focus on in-person community building, with forum-style tooling coming later
  • Find allies, either running existing networks or highly motivated to join one
  • Set up a recurring forum, with a few ideas for themes. BGS does this for an hour after lunch, once a fortnight.
  • Start at one site, planning to propagate to them all
  • See how it develops from that point!

Framework for scaling up reproducibility practices in research organisations - has a section on Communities of Practise, maturity levels, and organisational support

Getting Started with the RSE Movement within your Organization: A Guide for Individuals via the Research Software Alliance about internal community-building which start from "what can individuals do" but have a lot of pointers for small groups / early efforts.

Notes on the software clinic model as it runs at BGS
