Process unprocessed log data in a background thread

When doing an operation that requires all data to be processed (publishing, exporting, etc) it can take a while for the data to process (and in some cases hang for a very long time). What could help with this is have non-displayed data be processed in the background on a separate thread so if the user decides to publish or export data, it won't take as long to finish processing. This also has the advantage of not having to wait a bit before data is displayed when dragging in new fields.
