Quick Time Player no longer working with MKV

It used to work on Snow Leopard but on Mavericks, QTP won´t open any MKV video...

That's because Mavericks uses AVFoundation instead of QTKit, and there is no public codec interface for AVFoundation, and there probably never will be.

download VLC to play unsupported formats.

You can find QuickTime Player 7, which uses QTKit/QuickTime, on Apple's website… somewhere.
