MDAnalysis is participating in Outreachy for the May 2022 cohort.

Initial applications for interns for the May 2022 round have closed, but keep an eye out for announcements if we choose to participate again in the future. You can also work with us through Google Summer of Code.

For applicants who have passed the initial application period, we have two available projects for the May 2022 round. Please read below for guidelines on how to get involved if you’re interested in working with us. We also have a page for Frequently Asked Questions that we’ll update as we encounter them. This is the first time we’re participating as a community in Outreachy, so please bear with us and we navigate how to best communicate with you!

The final application deadline is April 22, 2022 at 4pm UTC. See the full timeline here.

Contacting MDAnalysis

If you’re interested in working with MDAnalysis, we ask you first introduce yourself on our mailing list: https://groups.google.com/g/mdnalysis-devel. We also have a discord server (with a channel for Outreachy), but joining the discord is not a requirement.

Feel free to ask any questions you have at any stage on either the mailing list or discord. Please read the FAQ for more information on getting in contact and interacting with the community.

Contributing to MDAnalysis

The contribution period runs from March 25th to April 22nd. In order for us to accept an applicant as an intern, you must record at least one contribution.

Start by going through out Quick Start Guide to understand the basics of MDAnalysis. You can then have a look through the rest of the User Guide to become more familiar with the library. In particular, read our guide for contributing.

When you’re ready to make a contribution, we have a list of easy tasks on our issue trackers for both the core repository and the user guide. Please read the relevant FAQ for more information on contributing, and as always feel free to ask on the mailing list or discord if you have any questions.

About Us

The MDAnalysis development team is friendly, cooperative and relatively informal. We consist of people from a wide range of backgrounds, including students, PhD-candidates, postdocs, professors and researchers actively using this software. We will take your work with respect and appreciate the time that you will spend on MDAnalysis since it will help us in both our own and our community's research projects.

The MDAnalysis community values diversity and is committed to providing a productive, harassment-free environment to every member. Our Code of Conduct explains the values that we as a community uphold. Every member (and every Outreachy contributor) agrees to follow this Code of conduct.

The following developers have volunteered to be Outreachy mentors for the current round:
