Hello! The following video will walk you through the creation and design of this project: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D-5V2NXMUL8
Additionally, an indepth report on the project can be found in the base directory. A PDF titled "UCL/IBM Watson Communication Tool Summary" contains all details and future ideas for this project.
Unfortunately this project is not currently maintained but is an open source prototype that anyone can take on. The instructions to move this project onto your own IBM and Node-RED accounts are provided. If there are any difficulties or questions feel free to email me!
This application demonstrates a simple, reusable Node.js web application based on the Express framework.
- Install Node.js
- cd into this project's root directory
- Run
npm install
to install the app's dependencies - Run
npm start
to start the app - Access the running app in a browser at http://localhost:6001
- Ensure to have a copy of the localdev-config.json and vcap-local.json file
- Convert your current website into a PWA: YouTube
- Service Worker Configuration: (18:17)
- Cache First Approach: (22:55)
- Network First Approach: (27:00)
- Web App Manifest Generator Useful for creating the manifest.json and image directories from a single uploaded image.
- Inspect the localhost:6002 and look at the Application tab -> Manifest to check whether the Manifest has been configured successfully
- Digital Color Meter: Press shift + cmd + c to extract the hexadecimal value of a colour
- Place the manifest.json in the public directory
- Place the icons directory (with multiple images of varying sizes in the public/images directory)
- Create an empty views/sw.js file in the views directory (the same directory as the index.ejs)
- Define paths for static assets within both Service Worker files (especially the one in the public/sw.js directory)
