Here's are lines of the output from pmap of the julia process related to cairo for the non-working version. I'm not great with git, so I'm not sure how to get back to the working version (easily).

In the non-working version, there was nothing about pango in there. I checked out ca47eb5 of Cairo, and it seemed to work. Here is the entire output of pmap for the working case. It includes several things related to pango.

Of course, it is the extra dots. I feel stupid. I just pushed a fix to julia master; hopefully it will work. |

I submitted this as a Winston issue, but I realize it might be a Cairo issue given Jeff's recent removal of the use of OpenLib.
