Need help with GitVersion 6 configuration

I am trying to create a configuration file using GitVersion 6.0.4.

We follow the following workflow, manually, and would like to automate it or something as close as possible using GitVersion.

1. Every merge to development tags a new version
   1. feature/* steps minor or major (depending on version-bump-message)
   2. bugfix/* steps patch
   3. release/* steps minor to beyond last release/* tag
2. Every commit to release/* steps patch and tags a new version
3. No commits are allowed on development except through merge commit

I started out with GitHubFlow/v1 and after this #4217 I am now trying TrunkBased/preview1 but still can't seem to find the correct configuration to handle merging release into development.

Attached is my configuration file as well as a bash script that I have created in the spirit of the unit tests of this project.
Extract the archive and execute the script.
The script creates a temp folder in /tmp/ and then runs a set of git commands and evaluate the result of calling gitversion.
I have indicated in the script where I fail using a # <- HELP: comment

Any help will be appreciated, even if it is telling me that I am trying to do something that is not possible (yet)

I am closing this discussion for now.
After some deliberation with my colleagues we came to the conclusion we are trying to use GitVersion for solving another fundamental process/repo issue.
I will instead rather use the time to fix the base problem, then this problem goes away.

PS: Anyone is free to use my attached script to test their configurations
