Dynamic updtation of constraints

The constraints are right now applied at particular nodes. What should I do if I want to dynamically update the constraints. For example the constraints should be applied at a fixed distance from a global coordinate system. As the rod moves ahead the constraints should be applied at that fixed distance itself irrespective of the node present there or it should automatically update the node nearest to that distance.
