Mobile menu icon doesn't respond in Android browser (2.2.1) #195
Comments
I hope it might help narrow things down to see on what template demos I get the same results. Scanning on the phone a ways down the through the demos of templates listed as responsive which start or reduce down the mobile-icon menu: On University and RockWall, the menu works, though the icon itself doesn't highlight. On Storefront, Game, Music State and News the menu icon doesn't respond at all. On News 2, inStyle, mo, CloudHost, (m) Social, Bluap, StoreBox and Simplicity the menu icon highlights and works. |
Do you use stock browser or some from Android Market? Please note that Android 2.2 is a very old version of this OS (almost 5 years) and it is 0.7% of all Android devices - https://developer.android.com/about/dashboards/index.html Which means this is probably aroun 0.001% of whole internet traffic. We've tested our products on modern releases where there is no problems with the menu. |
Fair enough. I'll check it out on some other devices. Thanks, |
I've tested it on Browserstack on several different Android versions and there is no problem, you can even use built-in Chrome device emulator where also there is no problem. |
Using the demo site at http://demo.gavick.com/free/may2012/ on an Android 2.2.1 browser, the menu icon doesn't highlight or respond in any way to tapping. I get essentially the same behavior on my own site, but if we can find a fix for the demo site I hope I can apply the same fix to my own.
I don't know whether this is related, but (on a very slow processor) about 5 seconds after the page loads the browser loads something else. An AJAX call or something? Sometimes about a second after that there's another AJAX call or whatever it is. If that second call happens, then about 5 seconds after that the mobile menu icon shifts about 30 pixels to the right, almost entirely off the screen. The icon is still unresponsive in any case. The second call and the ensuing shift doesn't happen all the time, but once it does it will happen again when the page is refreshed.
I'm working on an LG VM670 phone. It's pretty archaic, but it's the only phone I have at hand, so it would be great to get the mobile menu working on this one before I try some other phones.
If this is a hard thing to track down, is there just a more conservative and reliable menu system I can plug in? I'm not afraid to hack files if necessary.
Thanks,
Drew
