Summary

Start and end of list entries not perceptible

  1. Go to https://codepen.io/jaws-test/pen/ZEEYGbJ
  2. Read with the arrow keys

Expected result

  • Start and end of list entries are perceptible
  • For definition lists, the type of the list entry is perceptible (dd or dt).

Actual result

  • The start and end of the lists are output, but not the start and end of the list entries.
  • The problem occurs if the lists have no list symbols (Example 1), if the list symbols cannot be recognized as such (e.g. because they also appear in the list entry; Example 2), or if the list symbols cannot be output correctly (e.g. because unknown special symbols are used: Example 3).
  • The problem occurs in IE 11, Chrome and Firefox.
  • In Chrome and Firefox the end of a definition list entry is noticeable by the output of "empty". However, this is problematic if the list entry itself contains elements that lead to the output of "empty" (see last list entry in the Example 4).
  • With definition lists it is aggravating that the difference between dd and dt is not perceptible and that these lists do not have list symbols by default (Example 4).
  • Note: The list entries are also not correctly perceptible with the quick navigation with I (Incorrect output for quick navigation to list entries with I #327).
