PaNET is not a catch-all place for identifying all scientific research techniques, only certain techniques are in scope.

The scope is currently loosely understood between the participants and not documented.

Initial thoughts:

  • PaNET should be restricted to techniques that utilize (accelerator-based) photon, and neutron, sources. The technique should utilize the photon or neutron beam.

  • Techniques should not be included simply due to being located at photon and neutron facilities, or due to being applied simultaneously with photon or neutron techniques.

  • The technique should not refer to the sample or its state, unless there is a very strong view from the user community that this is fundamental to the technique definition.

  • PaNET should include techniques that rely in an essential way on other probes, e.g. laser pump-probe experiments.

Thanks for the thoughts @spc93.

I've had a stab at creating a first draft, here.
