The FDSN is discussing and near adoption of a single-string identifier, an early draft of which was the basis for the NET_STA_LOC_CHAN syntax used in ROVER. When this new standard is released ROVER should be adopted to use it, while also being as backward-compatible with the current syntax as possible.
